The next Hackney Green Drinks is on Saturday 7 March 2020, at St Paul's Church West Hackney, 182 Stoke Newington Rd, N16 7UY (on the corner of Amhurst Road).
Women are changing the face of today’s fastest growing industry - cannabis.
Mary Janes: The Women of Weed – Breaking the Grass Ceiling is about women who are leading the cannabis industry and how cannabis liberation intersects with the most urgent social justice issues of our time, how this green revolution has big effects on environmental sustainability, ending the War on Drugs and the Prison-Industrial Complex, and the destructive domination of Big Pharma. It's part of the Puffragette® Movement.
Through a series of empowering and educational interviews with a broad diversity of women leading the industry today, filmmaker Windy Borman explores the movement to end marijuana prohibition, her own relationship to the plant, and the stereotypes surrounding it.
We are pleased to be hosting the screening as part of Women’s History Month.
As usual, we'll have a panel discussion and Q&A following the screening, and drinks & bar snacks are available throughout the evening. Panellists confirmed to date are Zoë Garbett an author of the Green Party Drugs Policy. Katrina Ffrench the Chief Executive of StopWatch UK, Niahm Eastwood the Executive Director of Release, and Kate Pothalingam the LibDems North East London GLA candidate. Hackney Quest has also been invited.
Bar and snacks to buy throughout the evening.
To book a seat please go to the Eventbrite page
There will be a bar and snacks throughout. Entry is free but donations are welcome and needed - as are volunteers to organise and promote the events and suggestions for future films. So we know how many will be coming, it would help if you booked in advance, here.
Hackney Green Drinks are organised around film screenings followed by brief Q&A sessions with local organisations and campaigners linked to the subject of the film. Great networking opportunities and you also get to watch a thought provoking film on the same evening. Events will be roughly every two months.
Hackney Green Drinks is an informal meet-up for anyone interested in environmental and sustainability issues. Come along on your own or with friends. Find out what’s going on, swap ideas and information, hear about new opportunities and how to get involved - and of course have fun! New people always very welcome. Hope to see you there.
