Karlskrona is home to many sustainable development initiatives involving Karlskrona Kommun, local businesses, community organisations and research and education at Blekinge Institute of Technology. As a UNESCO World Heritage city and tourist destination, we depend on a clean natural environment. As local citizens we depend on a safe and cohesive community. As global citizens we must be concious of our impact on the wider world in all that we do. Green Drinks is an opportunity for the community to come together to discuss our work in a social setting. We held our first event in December 2007 with attendance of around 30 people from various parts of the community. We've been holding successful events ever since.
For reminders about events, please join GreenDrinks Karlskrona on ning or GreenDrinks Karlskrona on Facebook.
Welcome to the autumn's first GreenDrinks where we especially welcome the new msls students who will study Sustainability and Leadership at BTH one years to come, and members of the green youth organization Green Teens Blekinge. Please join GreenDrinks this time on Café nyfiket in central Karlskrona.
Before the september meeting at 5pm there will be a user group gathering for Free software, Linux and Ubuntu. See here for more information.

Previous Events in the series:
We live in a time of impending social and environmental problems. At the same time every third young Swede is unemployed. 'Wake Up Call' is working to involve the young generation in the transition to a sustainable society. We do this by encouraging local involvement, global campaigns and social entrepreneurship together with international partners and on their own. Read more about the organization Wake Up Call.
Hear about the plans for this years celebration of The World Environment Day in Karlskrona. Tanja Rebel will also give a small talk about sustainability on the brittish island Isle of Wight. And Torbjörn Ström will talk about the latest news in Transition Sweden.
This time a presentation is held about The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation and a little about a polar expedition by Johan Knulst.
This time the presentation on GreenDrinks is about local green changeover. We show positive examples of what can be done on a local level without waiting for politicians, the industry or some new technology. What we can do on a grass roots level.
How can we stop increasing the growing amount of garbage our consumption society produces? Can we shop less stuff? Can we re-use more?
Freecycle is a non-profit network represented in nearly 5000 cities with more than 7.000.000 members around the world. The principle is that if a member has something he or she no longer wants to keep posts an "ad" about it on Freecycle. If somebody reading the ad wants it they get in contact with the ad poster who chooses which person they want to give the thing to and gets back to that person with information about when and where it can be picked up. Everything has to be free, no money or return favors can be involved. Freecycle will soon start in Karlskrona. It's now also available in a mobile version, see Mobile Freecycle.

You can watch the movie The Story of Stuff which is about the back side of our consumtion society. How are our things produced, how are thet sold, where do they go once we throw them away and how are our lives affected as well as the lives of people in other countries? Another movie about garbage is the movie Garbage.
The Green map system maps over 5000 green sites around the world. On Blekinge Green map you can find 18 sites in the Karlskrona area. Please join in this effort to map our local area of sustainable sites, nature sites, culture & society sites. Come to this Green drinks meeting to hear more about the project and come with your valuable feedback and ideas of how we can make it easier to live sustainable. Please join the team! By registering to the Green map system you can suggest sites for the map. You can also add comments and even photos and videos to individual sites as well as stating what impact a site has had in your life. Your information can be valuable for visitors and residents in the area who are not familiar with the sites. Please visit this site for more information www.ekoblekinge.se/greenmap

Confused? Come and see what it's all about. We talk a lot about energy efficiency, energy production and saving energy, but did you know that more energy hits the earth (from the sun) in one hour than we use in a whole year? What makes some energy useful, and some not?
What is going on locally? We will be joined by some guests from Karlskrona Kommun to talk about what they are doing. What else do we all need to do?
