Karlskrona Green Drinks

Karlskrona is home to many sustainable development initiatives involving Karlskrona Kommun, local businesses, community organisations and research and education at Blekinge Institute of Technology. As a UNESCO World Heritage city and tourist destination, we depend on a clean natural environment. As local citizens we depend on a safe and cohesive community. As global citizens we must be concious of our impact on the wider world in all that we do. Green Drinks is an opportunity for the community to come together to discuss our work in a social setting. We held our first event in December 2007 with attendance of around 30 people from various parts of the community. We've been holding successful events ever since.

For reminders about events, please join GreenDrinks Karlskrona on ning or GreenDrinks Karlskrona on Facebook.

"Karlskrona Freecycle"
Wednesday August 26th 2009
18:00, Cafe Nyfiket

How can we stop increasing the growing amount of garbage our consumption society produces? Can we shop less stuff? Can we re-use more?

Freecycle is a non-profit network represented in nearly 5000 cities with more than 7.000.000 members around the world. The principle is that if a member has something he or she no longer wants to keep posts an "ad" about it on Freecycle. If somebody reading the ad wants it they get in contact with the ad poster who chooses which person they want to give the thing to and gets back to that person with information about when and where it can be picked up. Everything has to be free, no money or return favors can be involved. Freecycle will soon start in Karlskrona. It's now also available in a mobile version, see Mobile Freecycle.

You can watch the movie The Story of Stuff which is about the back side of our consumtion society. How are our things produced, how are thet sold, where do they go once we throw them away and how are our lives affected as well as the lives of people in other countries? Another movie about garbage is the movie Garbage.

How do we as individuals grow and develop in order to be able to create this new just sustainable world? As a part of answering this question, three BTH students (Jayne Jen and Zaida) have looked at what kind of qualities we need to develop within us to BE the CHANGE that we want to see in this world. What is the new paradigm that we could operate from? What is the old paradigm? How can we develop these qualities within us as individuals? As a result they have developed a tool - a 12 week guidebook that is aimed as a way to move individuals towards their Sustainable Selves.

“CAR-FREE KARLSKRONA”?
Wednesday June 25th, 2008
Café Nyfiket
18:00
Host: Heleen Podsedkowska, MSLS
Från bilar till bussar till cyklar till ... personal rapid transit? Hur kan Karlskrona´s transport-system bli mer miljö- och människovänligt? Bör bilar vara tillåtna på Trossö?
From cars to buses to bikes to... personal rapid transit? How can Karlskrona’s transportation system become more environmentally- and people-friendly? Should cars be allowed on Trossö?
Originally from the Netherlands, now living in Sweden, Heleen has worked with Agenda 21 coordination, environmental education and information but also as a project leader for projects on gender equality. She has recently been working with Karlskrona Kommun to analyse the sustainability challenges of Karlskrona’s transportation system, and whether building a PRT (Personal Rapid Transit or ‘Pod Cars’) system is a good option for helping the town move towards sustainability.
